This was a West Coast Railway Company tour from Scarborough to Carlisle and return and despite its title it was only steam hauled on its outward leg between Preston and Carlisle with the remainder being diesel hauled. It was a very gloomy wet day in Carlisle with the repair work in the station only adding to the gloom. Leander was deputising for the rostered Galatea.
